I love Birkenstock's shoes, which I have always found to be great for extensive walking. The pair I had before these are about eight years old and have been resoled twice. I wanted a new pair, but needed to find an alternate model after learning Birkenstock discontinued its Memphis line of oxfords. These Jarens seemed to fit the bill, even looking a little sleeker than the Memphis. I wear 45s, and these fit just as they should do on the sole. The toes are a little tight and the heels snug, but I expect they will become comfortable once broken in. I'm also new to suede, so I'm trying my best to care for these properly. All in all, a satisfying pair that meet my needs.One thing to note, the shoes are actually stamped 'Made in Portugal;' I believe only the footbeds are still made in Germany.I own several Birkenstock dress shoes because they are so comfortable. They have a wide toe box, but not this pair. These run narrower than the others, so they are a bit tighter than others. Hopefully, they will become more comfortable over time.These aren't cheap. They are well-made, comfortable, durable, and with a style all their own. You can't tell they're Birkenstocks at first glance, but you can tell something's off. The round toe box, the narrower heel part. Connaisseurs will know the Birk shape right away. The fit is tight. I wear size 41 in sandals, and size 42 in this shoe is a little tight. Size 43 is a little too large for me. 42.5? The shoe is light, low, and the outside sole's 3/8" of rubber is thin compared to other casual shoes with 3/4" of heavy rubber for a sole. The inside is all leather, and it's starting to stretch and become more comfortable. Ultimately, a nice, casual, simple looking shoe in pure black leather. No frills, no brogue, just simple shoes that should grow more comfortable every day.normally I fit well in 41 Regular clogs or sandals. Reviews indicated that go up a size for the shoe, so I did - to a 42. WAY to tight, narrow. Could not use them, at all. Painful. Returned to company and they were OUTSTANDING in the return.Very nice shoe. In other brands, I wear a 13. These were just a little short for me.This shoe is less bulky and more attractive than shoes I've seen in the past. They help alleviate my heel pain and plantar fasciitis. At times, Birkenstock sandals have been the only shoes that have helped.
